As you can see Detective Kenneth Mains has done it all! He served in Law Enforcement and the United States Marine Corps for a combined 20 years. During those two decades of service he has learned -- above all else -- that integrity and honesty are what the public deserves. He believes in transparency. He works for the truth in all matters, regardless how complex the case is and regardless who the client is. Mains uses a unique and particular combination of forensic science, criminal investigation, forensic psychology, victimology, crime reconstruction, crime scene assessment and criminal profiling to help solve cases.
Mains is the founder of the world renowned cold case group The American Investigative Society of Cold Cases(AISOCC) which was created to assist law enforcement members and victims’ families in solving the plethora of unsolved cold cases.
Detective Mains is a proud veteran of the United States Marine Corps (1992-1996). During his tour with the Marine Corps, he was assigned primarily with the Special Operations Training Group (SOTG), II Marine Expeditionary Force with a concentration on administrative intelligence.
Mains' law enforcement career has consisted of working as a member of the Williamsport Bureau of Police (2003-2011), Lycoming County Drug Task Force (2005-2011), Federal Bureau of Investigations (2007-2011) and the Lycoming County of Pennsylvania’s District Attorney’s Office (2011-2018). In 2015, he was appointed as the Lycoming County Narcotics Unit Drug Task Force Coordinator and Supervisor by the Lycoming County District Attorney until his retirement in 2018.
Throughout his law enforcement career, he has investigated a variety of criminal activity to include illegal narcotics, financial, property and white-collar crimes. He have been recognized by the Pennsylvania Courts as an expert in the area of illegal narcotics when he was an undercover officer working for the FBI and Lycoming County Drug Task Force. Mains has been involved in and participated in close to a thousand narcotics related cases and investigated numerous violent crimes including robberies, homicides, cold cases, equivocal death and missing persons. Additionally, he has investigated public and political corruption and the intricacies of criminal organizations such as the Blood and Crips' street gangs as well as the American Mafia or La Costa Nostra while assigned to the FBI Safe Streets Task Force.
Mains holds a Bachelor of Science Degree (BS) in Criminal Justice from Lock Haven University (2000-2003) and has taken Master Degree course work in Forensic Criminology (2012) with an emphasis on Criminal Profiling. He has had professional training in Criminal Law, Criminal Investigations, Forensic Criminology, Criminal Profiling, Medicolegal Death Investigation, Cold Case Analysis for Law Enforcement, D.E.E.P Undercover Narcotics Investigations, Advanced Crime Scene Investigations, Sex-Related Homicide Investigations, Practical Homicide Investigations, among others.
In addition, Mains is an Advisory Board Member at the Cyril H. Wecht Institute of Forensic Science and Law at Duquesne University and an Advisory Board Member of Criminal Justice at Lock Haven University. He also volunteers his consulting services and case reviews for the National Organization of Parents of Murdered Children. He was entrusted by The Lycoming County District Attorney to create and maintain the County’s only Cold Case Unit in 2011 and has investigated cold cases professionally as a Detective since 2006.
He has been bestowed a number of awards to include Police Officer of the Year by the Williamsport Bureau of Police (2008) and the Gallantry Star for ‘Acts of Distinguished Bravery’ by the Williamsport Fraternal Order of Police (2005). He is also a three-time recipient of the Williamsport Bureau of Police’s Officer of the Quarter Award.
In 2017, Mains was asked by the History Channel to serve as their on-air expert investigating and producing a five-part true crime documentary about the unsolved ‘Zodiac’ murders in California in the late 1960’s. His investigation into these murders can be viewed on various platforms to include the History Channel, A&E, Amazon Prime and YouTube. In 2020 Mains was featured on ten episodes of the Discovery Science Channel's series 'Conspiracies Decoded' and in 2021 appeared as an on-air consultant for the Reelz Channel show 'When Friends Speak'.
